In St. Dominic High School’s mission to continue to provide quality education, it became an AUTHORIZED IB SCHOOL in April 2010 enabling it to offer the IB Diploma to its students. The Diploma Programme for students aged 16 to 19 started in 1968 with first examinations in 1970 and is now offered by 2,185 IB World Schools. IB schools share a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that St Dominic High believes is important for its students.
An international education brings the outside world in and encourages the student to seek, understand and appreciate that outside world. One of the purposes of education is the lifelong happiness of the learner and with an international education students learn to see value in the differences that surround them. It cultivates in the student a change of attitude from separate or disconnected to interrelated. This type of change will create value in the lives of the student.
The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
